Domestic Laminate:
If you want the
beautiful appearance of a real wood floor but with exceptional
performance that will hold up to the wear and tear of everyday life e.g.
children, pets spills etc. and at a fraction of the price of hardwood
then a laminate floor could be for you. We offer a large selection of
Laminate floorings from ranges such as
Quickstep, Alloc and many more.
Laminate floors have been used in homes across Europe for over 25 years
and although there are many brands the differences between the basic
construction weather it be a glue together product or an interlocking
product appear to be minor. Laminate floors are a tongue and groove interlocking flooring system that comes in either planks or squares. All of these floors have a wear layer, a decorative print film layer, an inner core structure, and some type of backing support layer. The decorative print film layer is either fused of glued to the inner core. This decorative print can be a photo of any real floor. The wear layer is applied to the decorative print layer to protect the pattern. Melamine resins are the main components of the wear layer. The melamine surface gets its incredible durability from aluminium oxide. Aluminium oxide is almost as hard as diamonds and provides unsurpassed wear and stain resistance. The central inner core is generally made from high density fibre board (HDF) and forms the tongue and groove locking system. Laminate floors are a floating floor system this means that they are not anchored to the substrate leaving them free to move and expand as the rooms environment changes. An expansion gap must be left at all fixed perimeters and objects for this action to take place. There are two types of fitting systems one where the boards are glued together around the tongue and grooves the other more recent and becoming the most popular system where the boards are mechanically locked together by a special engineered tongue and groove system.
